Privacy policy
Last updated: October 21, 2026
In short: this site only receives what you choose to send me through the Contact form, a blog comment or by email and, if you accept analytics cookies, browsing statistics from Google Analytics. I use it to reply to you and to see which pages are read. I do not sell your data and I do not use it for advertising. The details follow.
1. Who is responsible for your data
This is the personal site of Manuel Pérez, a data engineer in the Greater Toronto Area, Ontario, Canada. I am responsible for the personal information it receives and I handle privacy questions myself. You can reach me at me@manuelperez.ca.
2. What data I receive
I only receive the data you choose to share and the data your browser sends to any website:
- What you send through the Contact form: your name, your email, your phone if you add it, the topic you choose and your message.
- What you send me by email, if you write to me directly.
- What you write if you comment on a blog article: the name you choose and your comment. To limit spam I also keep a one-way code made from your IP address; it cannot be turned back into your address.
- Browsing statistics, only if you accept analytics cookies: pages visited, time on each page, device type and approximate city or country.
- Technical data any browser sends, such as your IP address, which the hosting provider may keep in its logs for security.
- Preferences stored in your own browser: light or dark mode and your cookie choice.
In the form, only the phone is optional. Without your name and email, I cannot reply to your message.
3. What I use it for
- Reading and replying to your message, and following up on the role or project you write about.
- Keeping a record of our conversation while it is useful to both of us.
- Seeing which pages are read, only if you accept analytics cookies.
- Publishing your blog comment under the article, with the name you chose, once I have reviewed it.
- Protecting the site and its form from abuse and spam.
I do not sell or rent your data, I do not add you to any mailing list and I do not use your data for advertising.
4. Your consent
When you send a message, you consent to my using your details to reply to you. Analytics cookies are only set if you accept them in the cookie notice. You can withdraw your consent at any time by writing to me or changing your cookie choice, without affecting what was done before.
5. Who sees it and who I share it with
Only I read the messages and the statistics. I share the minimum necessary with these providers, who process the data on my behalf:
- Hostinger, which hosts the site, its database and the me@manuelperez.ca mailbox.
- Google, through Google Analytics, only if you accept analytics cookies.
- Cloudflare, if the form uses its Turnstile service to check that a person, not a program, is sending it.
- Authorities, when the law requires it.
6. Data outside Canada
Hostinger, Google and Cloudflare may store or process data on servers outside Canada, for example in the United States or the European Union. While it is there, it is subject to the laws of that country, and its courts, police or other authorities may be able to access it.
7. How long I keep it
- Messages from the Contact form and emails: up to 2 years from our last contact. Then I delete them.
- Analytics data: up to 14 months, the retention set in Google Analytics.
- Blog comments: while the article is online, or until you ask me to remove yours.
- Technical logs: only as long as the hosting provider keeps them for security.
8. Your rights
You can ask me at any time for access to the personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct it or delete it, and withdraw your consent. I will reply within 30 days, at no cost.
To do so, write to me@manuelperez.ca with your name and your request. I may ask for something to confirm it is you.
If you are not satisfied with my answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).
9. Security
The site uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Messages are stored in a database protected by a password that only I have. No system is completely secure, but I take reasonable measures to protect your information. If a breach created a real risk of significant harm, I would notify you and the Privacy Commissioner, as the law requires.
10. Minors
The site is intended for adults. I do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has sent me their data, write to me and I will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
If I change this policy, I will publish the new version on this page with its update date.
If you have questions about this document, write to me@manuelperez.ca.
