About

Manuel Pérez Senior Data Engineer in the Greater Toronto Area

I have worked with data since 2009. I started at Marsh as an Oracle developer, writing PL/SQL and keeping data dictionaries and technical documentation up to date. At Banco BHD I designed star and snowflake models and nightly ETL from Oracle, SQL Server and DB2, and later led the data warehouse team that rebuilt 400 Pentaho processes as ELT pipelines in Azure Data Factory, cutting load times in half.

As a data integration consultant at FOREBRA, I architected the migration of about 20,000 clients and 55,000 insured members into a new health-insurance core platform, now live in Costa Rica and Honduras. I also replaced a manual monthly reconciliation under Puerto Rico’s Law 95 with an automated Python and SQL pipeline.

Today I work on Scotiabank’s International Banking data migration to Google Cloud: discovery, profiling and lineage of source data, and the landing and standardization layers that feed the new platform.

Across all of it, a migration is finished when the business can sign off. I test in several environments, cross-check the results with the people who know the data, and get formal sign-off before each go-live.

In a few words

How I work

  • Rules in SQL, steps in Python.
  • Validation is part of the pipeline: automated profiling of every load cut manual testing by 40%.
  • Formal sign-off with the people who know the data before every go-live.
